From Corporate to Crystals: The Founders of Angelic Roots

Angelic Roots is a vibrant, holistic healing space and metaphysical shop in the Oak Creek Market Place Village, just south of Milwaukee. Founded in 2016 by Laurie and Djuro Rodic, this crystal and healing arts wellness center is much more than a retail store; it is dedicated to uplifting the community and supporting well-being through a variety of practices and products for mind, body and soul.
Laurie Rodic began this journey from personal experiences with meditation and Reiki, and a drive to genuinely help others heal. A former healthcare professional, she found herself disillusioned with the corporate healthcare environment. “I felt really trapped,” Laurie recalls, reflecting on her laboratory management role. A friend’s introduction to a spiritual group discussing meditation and Reiki opened a new path for her. This new direction was solidified by a profound Reiki session gifted by her friend, which ultimately led Laurie to leave her healthcare career and pursue holistic healing and teaching Reiki full time.
Djuro Rodic’s path was interwoven with Laurie’s as he explored alternative self-care methods and creative expression, initially by making wire crystal trees. “Not only was that therapeutic for me, twisting the wire and making these beautiful pieces of crystal art,” Djuro reflects, “I started seeing that it brought a lot of joy to other people, too.” His journey further expanded when he
encountered the profound effects of sound healing. He first heard the sound of a gong at a metaphysical show, and this ignited a passion for the healing effects of music, sound and vibration that became a cornerstone of Angelic Roots’ offerings.
Early to join Laurie and Djuro’s team was Lauren Bierbach, whose journey to Angelic Roots was marked by a search for fulfillment beyond the demanding corporate world. Initially connecting with Laurie through work, Lauren experienced the benefits of Reiki and meditation firsthand. “I was working more than I was not, and I got to the point where I said, ‘why am I doing this?’ I was miserable,” Lauren recalls. Courageously, she quit her job and offered her skills to help build Angelic Roots’ presence online and in the community. She soon became an integral part of the team.
Angelic Roots offers a diverse range of services and products designed to support mind, body and spirit. Their healings arts center features Reiki, sound baths and sound healing sessions, Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique (QHHT) sessions, craniosacral therapy, Zen Shiatsu massage, yoga classes and more. The retail spaces brim with beautiful crystals, jewelry, metaphysical tools, sound healing instruments, incense, books, oracle cards and an apothecary.
The shop also hosts numerous classes, workshops, retreats and events aimed at fostering community and personal growth. They provide rental space for wellness professionals, honoring their role as a hub for holistic health in the community.
“I recently had a class and asked if anybody had anything else to share,” Laurie says. “A couple of people piped up and said, ‘I’m just grateful for you guys being here. This has created so much change in my life, and it’s been so positive. I’m grateful to be here and grateful for what you guys have done.’ That fills us up more than any amount of money that we receive.”
They host Reiki Shares and Community Reiki sessions where practitioners and clients come together to learn and heal. These sessions, priced affordably, provide an opportunity for both seasoned practitioners and newcomers to experience the benefits of Reiki in a supportive environment.
“I enjoy the camaraderie of being with like-minded people that are searching for that alternative source of wellness, whether that be through energy work, sound healing, making crystal arts, doing classes, or all those things together,” says Laurie. She emphasizes the importance of matching students with the right teacher, starting with a personal consultation before any Reiki training begins. This ensures that the training process is deeply personalized and effective.
The virtual community at Angelic Roots has flourished since its inception in 2016. Weekly live sales and online gatherings have created a space where people from all over can connect, share and support each other.
