Leading by Example: Encouraging Loved Ones to Explore Holistic Healing

Aug 30, 2024 12:00AM ● By Susan Rohr and Jordan Peschek
Encouraging those close to us to explore holistic healing modalities can be a delicate balance. Quite often, friends or loved ones share health complaints along with frustration about the struggle to find answers. Perhaps they are experiencing pain, anxiety, stress, indigestion, lack of sleep or symptoms they can’t explain but just don’t feel right. Natural Awakenings Milwaukee partnered with Brookfield Health & Wellness to explore strategies to lead by example and inspire others to embrace holistic wellness.

Since 1994, Natural Awakenings has been dedicated to educating and empowering others about holistic and integrative health strategies to heal and thrive, and to connect them with resources that support mind, body and spirit.

Brookfield Health & Wellness, LLC recently celebrated a decade of excellence in holistic wellness. The wellness center in southeast Wisconsin is dedicated to those interested in working with their innate healing abilities. With over 6,000 square feet of natural and energy healing modalities, the center supports, balances and regenerates what is out of homeostasis. By assessing the whole person—body, mind and spirit—clinicians address the root cause of illness from an integrative medicine approach.

Walk Your Walk

The most powerful way to encourage others is by living your own life in alignment with holistic principles. Demonstrate the benefits through your actions and habits. When loved ones see the positive impact on your health and well-being, they may be inspired to make changes in their own lives.

Offer, Don’t Push

Invite family and friends to join you for holistic activities, but avoid pushing them. Share your experiences and the health benefits you’ve noticed without expecting immediate change. Offer information and opportunities, and let them decide when they are ready to explore further.

Educate Gently

Educate loved ones about the importance of holistic health in a non-judgmental way. Explain how addressing the root cause of illnesses through integrative approaches can lead to long-term health improvements. Highlighting the science and success stories behind holistic treatments can make them more relatable.

Create a Supportive Environment

Encourage small, manageable changes that are sustainable. Suggest starting with simple practices like drinking more water, reducing processed foods, choosing more natural products for home and body, or incorporating mindfulness exercises. These small steps can lead to significant improvements and build confidence in exploring more holistic modalities.

Share Resources

Provide resources like books, articles or podcasts that explain natural health concepts. Sharing your own favorite resources can help loved ones understand and appreciate the benefits of holistic practices.

Celebrate Small Wins

Acknowledge and celebrate any positive changes your loved ones make, no matter how small. Positive reinforcement can boost their confidence and motivation to continue exploring holistic health options.

Be Patient and Compassionate

Understand that everyone’s journey is different. Be patient and compassionate, recognizing that change takes time. Avoid judgment and offer support without pressuring them to conform to your expectations.

Utilize Holistic Practitioners

Encourage visits to holistic practitioners. Many offer complimentary discovery calls or consultations to help answer questions, understand individual needs and provide guidance. After all, the number of services, providers and modalities out there can be overwhelming, not to mention challenging to find the ones that may best suit individual needs. It’s important to start somewhere. Wellness centers and providers that put patients first can provide honest feedback and treatment recommendations. Experiencing treatments firsthand can be a powerful motivator.

Encouraging those close to us to explore holistic healing modalities involves leading by example, offering support, and providing education in a compassionate manner. By embodying holistic principles and gently guiding loved ones, we can foster a supportive environment that encourages a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.
