Superfood Red Velvet Smoothie
Jan 29, 2021 08:30AM ● By Dr. Sarah AxtellDr. Sarah Axtell
This smoothie combines so many superfoods: beets, avocados, flax and cacao. Beets and beet greens support liver detoxification and are an excellent source of antioxidants and betaine. According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, betaine helps liver cells clear toxins and protects cells and proteins from environmental stress.
12 ounces unsweetened almond milk
½ to 1 raw beet
½ cup beet greens (stems removed)
1/4 avocado
1/4 cup frozen cherries
1 Tbsp ground flaxseeds
1 Tbsp cacao powder
1 scoop plant-based protein powder
Place all ingredients in a blender, and blend on high until smooth.

In addition to promoting liver detoxification, this smoothie also supports a positive mood; both beets and avocados raise dopamine, our neurotransmitter responsible for pleasure, motivation, and attention.
Cheers to a healthy liver and a happy brain.
