The concept of support—connecting and working together—can be woven into
so many aspects of a healthy lifestyle and healthy planet. After all,
the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. We do much of this
instinctively: supporting our loved ones, ensuring our kids are clean
and fed, working as a team to complete a project. The power of
connection is imperative at a broader scale, too: connecting holistic
health with contemporary medicine, for example. The optimal health of
our society is not found solely in medications and medical care, nor is
it exclusively found in natural and alternative methods. The power lies
in the intersection of both.

Natural Awakenings
has a mission to improve lives at an individual, community and global
level. This stems from the power of connection. We are a resource to
inspire you and your family to help each other be your best selves. Natural Awakenings
is a resource to help bridge the gap in our siloed healthcare system:
to help promote the unity of modern medicine with natural and holistic
methods that promote health and prevent disease. And we are a resource
to guide our culture to a more sustainable, eco-conscious society at a
global level.
We achieve all of these goals
through our mission to educate, empower and connect. We educate our
community with the latest health and wellness news, empower others to
take control of their health and connect people to each other, to nature
and to the many health-focused businesses right here in Milwaukee.
We
may not be able to change the whole world, but we can change our corner
of the world. And we all know that change starts with a single step.
We
implore you to support each other, support our advertisers and support
the health of your mind, body and the planet. We are here to help. Hold
on to this issue all year as a guide to health resources in our
community. The businesses and practitioners in the inaugural Health and
Wellness Directory issue are ready to support your journey to a
healthier you.
