Letter from Publisher
February is known as the month of love. Despite the commercialism of Valentine’s Day, moods are elevated during one of Wisconsin’s coldest, gloomiest months as we see uplifting images of love and read greeting cards to and from the people most important to us. Healthy relationships with romantic partners, family, friends and neighbors—or just snuggling up with a beloved pet—stimulates positive emotions that are vital to mental and spiritual health. But what about physical heart health?
Wishing you vibrant health and a light heart,

The feature this month, “Sacred Vessels: the Lifeblood of Heart Health,” covers the importance of the vascular system—the veins, arteries and capillaries that distribute blood to every cell in the body. Author Julie Peterson covers cardiovascular hidden risk factors as well as diet and lifestyle remedies that can help improve the function of one of the body’s hardest-working systems.
Exercise is a crucial part of overall heart health, but joint pain can make it difficult to stay active. “Healing Joints from Within: The Promise of Regenerative Medicine,” looks at the modern breakthroughs of this area of medicine, including how various injections—such as dextrose, a patient’s own platelets or stem cells—can heal osteoarthritis. Our local Community Spotlight this month provides a further perspective on this subject, as Milwaukee-area physician Dr. Eliesha Evans of Regen Med Pain Relief Clinics discusses her regenerative medicine practice.
Valentine’s Day promotes feelings of love and gratitude during the month of February, but keeping a positive, loving aura all year long can do wonders not just for ourselves, but also for those around us. Moods—good or bad—are contagious, and if we can help spread a little love and joy past February 14 through kind words or simple selfless acts, our communities and even our world really can become a better place.
Wishing you vibrant health and a light heart,
