Out of the Darkness Community Walk for Suicide Prevention
The Wisconsin chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) will hold the annual Milwaukee Out of the Darkness community walk—their largest walk in the state—on Sunday, October 14, at Humboldt Park in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood. Registration begins at 9 a.m., with the opening ceremony at 11 a.m., followed by the approximately three-mile walk, which consists of three laps around the park. A walk wrap-up and raffle takes place at 12:30 p.m.
Registered walkers will join the effort with thousands of people nationwide to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy and support survivors of suicide loss. Socialized, leashed dogs are also welcome at the event, and for a $10 donation, pooches get an AFSP bandana at the Paws for Prevention tent.
Location: 3000 S. Howell Ave., Milwaukee. For more information or to register or become a sponsor for the walk, visit Tinyurl.com/AFSP-DonorDrive-OutOfDarkness.
