MKE Dance Theatre Network Presents Pina Bausch’s The NELKEN-Line
MKE Dance Theatre Network (MDTN), under the direction of Catey Ott Thompson and assistant project manager Kelly Coffey, will perform the dance The NELKEN-Line by iconic choreographer Pina Bausch, which describes the four seasons with a few simple repeated gestures. The two performances, held on May 12, will take place between 9:30 a.m. to noon at Alice’s Garden, and from 1 to 4 p.m. at Lynden Sculpture Garden.
This is part of a project created by the Pina Bausch Foundation to encourage dancers and dance lovers from all over the world to perform and film their own NELKEN-Line and share their videos on the Pina Bausch Foundation website. Bausch, considered the most controversial dancer/choreographer of her era, created Theatretanz, an approach to dance expression exploring the highs and lows of human nature.
MDTN invites everyone to join the line. No dance experience is required. Participants will learn the four gestures from MDTN site managers, and then perform the gestures in an outdoor parade at each site while being filmed by MDTN’s Christal Wagner. The video will be edited and shared on the Pina Bausch Foundation website by June 2018. Participants are welcome to perform at one or both sites, and are encouraged to arrive promptly and to dress comfortably and for the weather.
Location: Alice’s Garden, 2136 N. 21st St.; Lynden Sculpture Garden, 2145 W. Brown Deer Rd.; both in Milwaukee. For more information and to register, visit Facebook.com/events/934612643354730.
