Teens Grow Greens Cooks for a Cause
On Thursday, May 31, the nonprofit organization Teens Grow Greens will host their annual Chef’s Dinner at The Atrium, in Shorewood, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The organization, which formed in 2014 and has the motto “learn, grow and go”, teaches teenagers to develop life skills through hands-on experience via a nine-month paid internship. During the Chef’s Dinner, teens participating in the program create, cook and serve dinner with some of the Milwaukee area’s most experienced chefs.
Featured chefs participating in this year’s dinner include Trueman McGee, of Funky Fresh Spring Rolls; Omar Andrietsch, of The Colour Palate; Rebecca Goldberger, of Cloud Red; Caitlin Cullen, of The Atrium; and Caitlin Russell, of Bougie Berries.
In addition, Teens Grow Greens recently purchased Webers Greenhouses at 4215 N. Green Bay Avenue, the establishment where the organization first began teaching teens to grow plants from seed, and where they hold work sessions and host volunteer events. The purchase will give the organization a home base for innovation and continue as a community hub for Milwaukee residents, business and nonprofit leaders to combine the mission of Teens Grow Greens while meeting the needs of the community.
