The City of Milwaukee is planning its first bike boulevards, also known as shared roadways. Unlike the separate bike lanes already present throughout the city, bike boulevards are low- volume streets where motorists and cyclists share the same space. The bike boulevards will be constructed at North Fratney Street between East Keefe and East Meinecke Avenues (linking to Reservoir Park), and on East Wright Street, from North Palmer Street to North Gordon Place, a stretch of about two miles.

Studies show that bike boulevards increase cycling safety. By implementing traffic-calming devices (measures used to slow down cars), they discourage high-speed and cut-through traffic from using these streets. Meetings for public input on the project will begin in the spring of 2018.
