Field Trips and Scout Days Being Held at
Victory Garden Initiative Farm

The lush urban farm of Victory Garden Initiative (VGI) is open for field trips for children and scouts. The field trips, offered Monday through Saturday through October, provide a unique opportunity for children of all ages to learn about growing food, local food systems, pollination, bees, compost and more.

The setting provides an outdoor classroom with “get your hands dirty” activities, food system and garden-based games, and veggie tastings. Scouts activities will meet partial requirements for Gardening, Sustainability and Gardener badges.

“A farm field trip is about smelling fresh air, getting your hands dirty and learning something new; it’s a fun-filled day,” says Meenal Atre, VGI’s mission advancement coordinator. “This beautiful green oasis in the heart of the Harambee neighborhood provides the perfect setting for kids to connect with a local food source, learn about growing food, and enjoy activities that highlight nutritious and healthy eating.”

Cost: $5 per child for up to four hours; $8 per child for up to six hours. Location: 220 E. Concordia Ave., Milwaukee. To learn more, call Beverly Tyree at 414-431-0888, email [email protected] or visit VictoryGardenInitiative.org/YEP-Youth.
