Popular Healthy Cooking Show Returns
Alamelu Vairavan
After a year hiatus, Healthful Indian Flavors with Alamelu, the television cooking show produced by Milwaukee Public Television and hosted by cookbook author and culinary expert Alamelu Vairavan, returns for a third season. The first episode, “Cooking with Passion,” will air at 12:30 p.m., January 3, on MPTV channel 10. New episodes air Saturdays at 12:30 p.m., with repeats 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday on the national PBS network CREATE, channel 36.3 in Milwaukee.
The informative show features fresh, healthful Indian recipes and cooking techniques. Through her culinary teachings, Vairavan, a Whitefish Bay resident, educates, inspires and motivates people to try new flavors and eat healthy. Recipes feature fresh vegetables, lean protein and rice. Vairavan enhances her dishes with spices that have intrinsic health benefits and legumes, which are high in protein and fiber. Her recent books include Healthy South Indian Cooking–Expanded Edition and Indian Inspired Gluten-Free Cooking.
