Environmentalist, writer and shamanic practitioner Kathleen Rude will lead a three-part workshop, Active Hope, from 7 to 9 p.m., May 30, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 31 and June 1, at the Marian Center for Nonprofits, in St. Francis.

Based on the work of Joanna Macy, Ph.D., an eco-philosopher and scholar of Buddhism and deep ecology and the creator of The Work That Reconnects workshop series, Active Hope teaches a methodology for creating personal and social change.

Participants will learn how to transform fear and despair into inspiration and a sense of empowerment through interactive exercises, movement, inspirational readings and simple ceremonies. Optional lunches for purchase will be available Saturday and Sunday.
