Tour the Natural Treasures of Ozaukee County
The Treasures of Oz project is a collaboration of organizations and individuals that promotes environmental awareness, education and stewardship of the natural resources of Ozaukee County. On June 15, the group will host a tour of eight natural sites in the county. Adventurers can download an event passport and map, and each site will provide docents and guides to share expert information about the area’s unique features. This year’s event focuses on places that are newly or rarely open to the public.
The Treasures of Oz project seeks to become a resource for those that live and recreate in Ozaukee County in order to foster their awareness of the area’s natural treasures and to encourage environmental stewardship in a meaningful and sustainable way.
The intended last stop of the tour, the Forest Beach Migratory Preserve, just a few minutes north of Port Washington, will house the celebration headquarters, which promises good food, down-home music, interesting exhibits and a silent auction that includes locally made fine arts and crafts. Completed passports can be exchanged for free raffle tickets.
