Outdoor Survival Skills Training for Women

Shannon Francis

Shannon Francis, founder of Resiliency Training, will lead outdoor survival skills training for women from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 11, 12, 18 and 19, at Grobschmidt Park, in Franklin.

These hands-on skill development workshops teach short-term wilderness survival and the psychology of survival, as well as how to prioritize needs, build a shelter, stay warm during cold weather, start a fire without a match, purify water, create cordage from plant material, and identify and use a variety of survival plants.

“May is the perfect month to be outside and hone your survival skills while connecting with other women who share the same interest,” says Francis, an instructor for the Department of Recreation for the cities of Greenfield and Milwaukee who has taught outdoor education for the Peace Corps, YMCA and the Michigan state parks system. “You’ll leave this course feeling empowered and gain a self-confidence that few other skills can provide.”

Cost: $75 per person; $120 for two people registering together; cost includes all course materials and lunch. Location: 3751 College Ave., Franklin. For more information, call 262-515-5331, email [email protected] or visit ResiliencyTraining.net.
