Wellspring Organic Farm has broken ground on an outdoor educational classroom in the middle of a natural prairie on the farm’s 36 acres. The space will feature youth demonstration gardens and a covered area for classroom-style instruction. Wellspring hosts farm field trips for groups of all ages throughout the year, where children learn about growing food by planting, harvesting and enjoying fresh produce from the garden. In addition to interacting in the garden, classes tour the organic farm, feed chickens and learn about worm composting.

“Farm field trips to Wellspring allow youth hands-on, multi-sensory opportunities to connect with where their food comes from,” says Education Coordinator Francie Szostak. “All visits are tailored to students’ ages, learning levels and classroom goals, including Wisconsin’s learning standards.”
