Wellspring Organic Farm Hosts Seasonal Cooking Classes

Wellspring Farm hosts a seasonal produce cooking class, from 6 to 8 p.m., the second Thursday of each month, from May through November, during which a local chef will demonstrate four recipes using produce harvested from the farm. Attendees receive samples of each dish paired with wine samples, plus healthy cooking tips and recipes to take home. Wellspring’s July 12 class will feature culinary herbs.

Wellspring is a certified organic farm and home to a community-supported agriculture (CSA) program and a not-for-profit education and retreat center that has been offering programs in ecology and gardening, wellness education, the arts and personal growth since 1982. “Our mission here at Wellspring is to not only grow quality, organic produce, but also teach the community about the importance of eating and living sustainably,” explains Farm Manager Alissa Moore. Topics of future cooking classes include beets, root veggies, Brussels sprouts and Thanksgiving veggie dishes.

The series was created to introduce people to veggies that the average home cook is not used to preparing. “Some of our CSA members and farmers’ market customers had never heard of some types of produce and were unsure how to prepare them,” says Moore. “Besides introducing people to different produce, these classes really help teach people the concept of selecting and eating foods that are in season here in southeastern Wisconsin.”

Cost: $25 per class. For more information or to register, call 262-675–6755, email [email protected] or visit WellspringInc.org.
